JOPLIN, Mo.—U.S. News & World Report today released its annual Best Hospitals rankings. The report, which for 23 years has saluted the nation’s premiere hospitals, ranked Freeman Health System #4 in the state of Missouri. In addition, Freeman was recognized among the U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals in Southwest Missouri and received special designation in five high-performing specialties, including Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Neurology and Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, and Pulmonology.
JOPLIN, Mo.—Freeman Health System has entered a new era in advanced patient care, thanks to the O-arm® Multidimensional Imaging System. Manufactured and distributed by Medtronic, the O-arm provides neurosurgeons with real-time, 3-D images. Through this state-of-the-art technology, Freeman surgeons view patient anatomy in the operative position, monitor the status of the surgery, and verify the surgical changes with a 3-D image prior to the patient leaving the surgical suite.
WASHINGTON D.C.—Freeman Health System has been ranked high performing in five specialties by the U.S. News & World Reports 2011-12 Best Hospitals assessment. The latest rankings showcase 720 hospitals out of 5,000 hospitals nationwide. Each is ranked among the country’s top hospitals in at least one medical specialty and/or ranked among the best hospitals in its metro area. Freeman was recognized for five of its specialties, including geriatrics, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopaedics, and pulmonology.
Freeman Health System announces the addition of Dr. Sulaiman Iftikhar to Freeman Hospital West. He is the first and only neurohospitalist in the region. As a neurohospitalist, Dr. Iftikhar will care for hospitalized patients with or at risk for neurological disorders and disease.
After receiving his medical degree at Army Medical College in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, Dr. Iftikhar completed residencies in internal medicine and neurology at University of Tennessee Health Science Center/College of Medicine in Memphis, Tenn.
Freeman Health System was honored with an “A” grade in The Leapfrog Group Fall 2016 Hospital Safety Score. Freeman is one of 17 hospitals in Missouri to receive the grade. The score rates how well hospitals protect patients from errors, accidents, injuries and infections.
