In 2018, organ donors saved 818 lives in western Missouri and Kansas – the most in a single year. To keep that momentum going strong, Freeman Health System is honoring National Donate Life Month by engaging an influential group of people – its employees.

On Friday, April 12, National Donate Life Blue and Green Day, Freeman employees will be wearing blue and green to show support for organ, eye and tissue donation. Employees and visitors can also visit the Freeman Donor Council booth for blue and green pins from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm at Freeman Hospital West Main Lobby. Individuals can also register as an organ, eye and tissue donor.

Nationally, more than 120,000 people are waiting for an organ – one person is added to a waiting list every 10 minutes. By registering to be an organ donor, an individual can save as many as eight lives and directly improve the lives of up to 50 people through tissue donation.

Joining the donor registry is simple. Individuals can register online at sharelifemidwest.com or at the department of motor vehicles when obtaining or renewing a driver’s license or identification card.
