Area gamers have an excuse to play all day on Saturday, November 3. Extra Life™ Game Day is a chance for gamers of all levels to help improve the lives of local children through Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
Participants sign up for the 24-hour event and invite friends and family to donate to the local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, Freeman Health System. The official Game Day is November 3, but participants may complete their 24 hours of play whenever and however they like. Players may also participate individually or on teams.
Extra Life was created in 2008 to honor 15-year-old Victoria Enmon who died after fighting leukemia. Her battle inspired a radio disc jockey from Sarcastic Gamer Community to collect a number of games and gifts to keep Victoria in good spirits during treatment. Following her death, members of Sarcastic Gamer Community hosted a 24-hour video game marathon to raise money for the hospital that cared for Victoria. Since then, the event has spread around the globe and raised more than $30 million for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
Participants may register at extra-life.org, select Freeman Health System as their preferred Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, set a fundraising goal and collect donations for children in need.
Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals provides assistance to children from birth to 21 years of age in a 14-county area in Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma. All money raised stays local, helping children with medical needs and their families. Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals helps furnish and maintain Freeman Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, provides funding for local community organizations’ pediatric needs and provides pediatric emergency equipment for area agencies.
