Award Honors Efforts to Support Breastfeeding Mothers at Work

Freeman Health System joins a growing number of Missouri businesses by becoming a Missouri Breastfeeding Friendly Worksite – Silver Level. Breastfeeding friendly employers proactively support employees who choose to breastfeed their infants. They provide time, space and other benefits to maintain breastfeeding after a mother returns to work.

In collaboration with the Missouri Breastfeeding Coalition, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services provided three $500 grants to create private lactation rooms at three locations – Freeman Children’s Clinic, Freeman Pediatric Care and Freeman Human Resources.

While the grants allowed for the lactation areas to become soothing, private spaces for mothers, Freeman employees provided several finishing touches to make the spaces more relaxing.
