Nurses Recognized During Special Signing Day Ceremony
One by one, surrounded by loved ones, 21 nurses from area college nursing programs signed letters of intent to work at Freeman Health System Wednesday evening.
Just as athletes sign letters of intent to play at the collegiate level, these graduate nurses signed their names on the dotted line to accept open Freeman RN positions systemwide.
“We’re very excited you’ve chosen to join the Freeman family, and I want you to feel excited and hopeful,” said Jeanee Kennedy, Freeman’s Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer. “For those of us who have been through nursing school, we know how difficult it is for you; it’s a very stressful time with lots of emotions. But I want you to know that you’re joining a group of individuals who care about you, who want you to develop in your careers, and who will help you be the best version of yourself.”
During the ceremony, which was held on the Missouri Southern State University campus, family, friends, and colleagues gathered around the signing table to celebrate each nurse’s hard-earned achievement. This wasn’t lost on Freeman President and Chief Executive Officer Matt Fry.
“We know this is just as much of a sacrifice for the family as it is for the student,” Fry said. “For all the supporting family that have helped these incredible students get through school, thank you!”
The graduate nurses—who will enter various Freeman departments such as the birthing center, intensive care unit, emergency, critical care, and cardiology—will take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). Upon passing the exam, they will become registered nurses at Freeman.
Nurses recognized during the ceremony included: LeeAnn Wallace, Kaytlyn Cook, Carly Haynes, Monica Hill, Mallorie King, Stephanie Tripp, Aspen Cooley, Alexa Wood, Brice Pennington, Alma Gonzalez, Trisha Reed, Sabrina Wiseman, Avery Brannin, Mariah Hurn, Morgan White, Alex Herrin, Kaia Johnson, Ely Daniel, Mercedes Bos, Kiley Walker, and Caitlyn Mabunga.
