Classes Help Families Prepare for Childbirth and Beyond

Having a baby is an exciting time, and Freeman Health System is helping families prepare for the new arrival through free education programs. Offered monthly through Freeman Maternity Center, the informative classes are taught by registered nurses with years of experience helping expectant families prepare for a positive birth experience.

Prenatal classes prepare moms-to-be and their partners about the various stages of pregnancy, labor and delivery, breathing and relaxation techniques and pain management – including epidural anesthesia and natural methods.

Sibling class is designed for children ages 3-12 and helps them prepare for their new role and changes that will occur when their new sibling arrives. Instructors will discuss how babies look and behave, proper holding of an infant and diapering.

Breastfeeding class is taught by a certified lactation consultant. Topics include how to get started, proper positioning, recognizing hunger signals, frequency and volume of feedings and how to use a pump (if needed). Instructors also discuss the prevention and treatment of common breastfeeding problems, such as engorgement, sore nipples and clogged ducts.
