Interested in a career in healthcare?
Freeman Health Academy, the first program of its kind in our community, gives area students the opportunity to learn about healthcare careers from Freeman physicians and staff. The program, provided at no cost to students, comprises a variety of camps, outreach activities, and educational opportunities. Program options include day camps for middle and high school students and job shadowing opportunities.
We offer one-day camps for middle school students who are interested in learning about careers in healthcare, science or medicine. Students get a crash course in a day in the life of a hospital employee. Program activities include a hand-washing demonstration, learning how to “scrub in” and participating in the dissection of a pig’s heart. Participation is open to area students in 6th through 8th grades. Applications for Fall 2014 camps will be accepted until September 18, 2014. Apply today!
Application information for Summer 2015 camps will be released in early 2015. Our high school program is designed for students who will have completed their freshman year by June 2015 and are 15 or older. Selected students will be placed in a week-long camp held in June or July. Program activities include a simulated trauma patient treatment scenario, job shadowing, CPR certification, hospital tour and a behind-the-scenes look at many hospital departments. Additionally, students receive hands-on practice in phlebotomy, CPR and suturing.
Our job shadowing program enables area students and community members to explore healthcare careers by shadowing a Freeman caregiver. Learn more.
