While some patients may go straight home from the hospital, others transfer to the Skilled Nursing Unit at Freeman East for further recovery. This 32-bed unit specializes in helping patients achieve maximum independence through a combination of treatment, therapy, and education before they transition to home care or community-based living. The unit primarily serves the geriatric population, people with chronic disabilities, or patients needing an extended amount of time for recovery. Many need to regain strength or master activities of daily living before returning home. Others need therapy before transfer to a nursing home.
