Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer
Dr. Richard Schooler joined the Freeman family in 1985 as an obstetrician/gynecologist. In 2004 he assumed the positions of Medical Director and Director of Medical Education, where his roles and responsibilities included physician leadership, patient care/clinical leadership, quality of care, and leadership of Freeman's Medical Education programs. Dr. Schooler was named Chief Medical Officer in 2006, serving as an executive representative to the medical staff and management in healthcare-related issues. In 2013, Dr. Schooler became Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer.
Dr. Schooler graduated from Pittsburg State University with a Bachelor of Arts and received his osteopathic medical degree from the Kansas City University of Medicine of Biosciences. After completion of his residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at Michigan State University in 1985, he opened his practice in Joplin.
He is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is a past member of the Missouri State Board of Registration for the Healing Arts and currently serves on the Freeman Physician Hospital Organization Board of Directors, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Missouri Physician Consultative Committee, and the Board of Directors and Graduate Medical Education Committee of the Osteopathic Medical Education Consortium of Oklahoma.
He is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons, Life Member in the American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and has a faculty appointment as Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor with Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine.
