First baby of 2010 rang in New Year
JOPLIN, Mo.—On January 1, Freeman Hospital West celebrated extra special births.
At 12:30 am, the first baby of 2010 in Joplin, Landen Daniel Hall was born to proud parents, Amanda and James Hall of Powell, Missouri. Landen weighed in at 7 pounds, 8 ounces and measured 21 inches long. He received a lovely gift bag of duck-themed baby goodies from Freeman in honor of being the first baby.
All babies born at Freeman on New Year’s Day also received a bear from Children’s Miracle Network.
Brady Nathan Perry, the last baby born in 2009, also received special recognition. Brady was welcomed by proud parents, Angie and Brent Perry of Columbus and West Mineral, Kansas. He arrived at 7:33 pm on December 31, 2009, weighed in at 7 pounds, 2 ounces, and measured 22 inches long.
Kathy Blood, owner Blood Tax Service, and Carol Staszak, owner of Ambiance, joined forces and generously donated beautiful baby gift baskets for the last Freeman baby born in 2009 and first Freeman baby born in 2010. Blood was on hand January 1 to make presentations to the new parents.

Freeman features nine home-like birthing suites, 25 private postpartum rooms, board-certified obstetricians, certified nurse midwives, the region’s only board-certified perinatologist for high-risk pregnancies, two board-certified neonatologists for sick and prematurely born infants, and the region’s only neonatal intensive care unit. In 2008, 2,643 babies were born at Freeman.
