Donors provide one-of-a-kind mural
Freeman Hospital West recently unveiled Caring Hearts, Healing Hands, an 8-by-20-foot mural, in the cafeteria dining area. The mural added the finishing touch for the recently completed kitchen and dining area remodel/renovation.

Local artists A.J. Wood and son Jordan Wood created the mural depicting Freeman’s commitment to healthcare and the communities it serves. The mural, comprised of 161 12-inch square tiles, is punctuated with symbolism depicting Freeman’s growth for the past 90 years. Regional landmarks are positioned on tiles throughout the mural as symbols of the health system’s roots in the four-state area. A portion of the mural is also dedicated to the 161 lives lost during the May 2011 tornado.

The mural was made possible by the generous donations of several individuals and organizations, including Dr. and Mrs. Joshua Ball, Crothall Healthcare, Inc., and Morrison Management Specialists. These donors recognized the importance of having a visual reminder of the compassion of Freeman physicians, nurses, and staff as well as Freeman’s historical connection to Joplin and surrounding communities.

“Caring Hearts, Healing Hands is an example of what makes Freeman Foundation a vital part of the health system. It provides an avenue for donors to express their appreciation and gratitude to a hospital that is an integral part of this community,” said Blake Bard, Freeman Foundation Executive Director of Development.
