Freeman anesthesiologists are critical members of your care team—they provide many services, including:
  • Supervision of your vital signs during surgery, including breathing, blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, and temperature
  • Pain management (epidurals and spinal blocks) during labor, childbirth, and after the birth of your baby
  • Management and treatment of potential or existing medical issues before, during, and after surgery
  • Postsurgical pain management
Types of anesthesia:
  • Local anesthesia provides pain relief in a small area of the body, such as a hand or foot
  • Regional anesthesia, injected near the spinal cord or major nerves, blocks pain in a large area of the body
  • General anesthesia, administered via IV or inhalation, places your body carefully controlled unconsciousness (deep sleep)
