Abe defies the odds

Abriana (Abe) Andrews, born prematurely at only 27 weeks old, lived in the Freeman Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for 68 days.

Because Abe was born with serious infections, strep B and E. coli, the doctor told her mother, Crystal, “You have a very sick child. Be prepared for the worst. I would like to give her a 50 percent chance of survival, but I can’t.”

Then Abe started having brain bleeds. If she survived, the doctor gave her a 100 percent chance of having both cerebral palsy and mental retardation.

Abe not only survived, she proved everyone wrong. With no mental retardation and only a slight form of cerebral palsy, Abe captivates everyone as an 11-year-old active girl.

Crystal will tell you that without the NICU, funded by your local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, Abe would not be alive, and that she truly is a miracle. Abe will tell you, “I was born to help Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.”
