JOPLIN, Mo.—In special recognition of his years of service as an orthopaedic surgeon at Freeman Health System and his dedication to improving the health of the communities served by Freeman, the Freeman Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Building located at 1111 McIntosh Circle Drive has been renamed the David A. Ball, MD, Medical Building.

Dr. Ball was honored by Freeman President and CEO Gary Duncan and Freeman Chairman of the Board Lance Beshore, PhD, at a private reception and public ribbon-cutting ceremony held Thursday, September 24, 2009.

Missouri Speaker of the House Ron Richard attended the event to present Dr. Ball with a Missouri House of Representatives Resolution highlighting his years of service as an orthopaedic surgeon in our state. On behalf of Missouri Senator Gary Nodler, Jacob Heisten, Senator Nodler Legislative Staff Member, presented a special Missouri Senate Resolution honoring Dr. Ball.

Originally from Independence, Missouri, Dr. Ball completed his undergraduate and medical education at University of Kansas, followed by an internship at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, and several residencies in Kansas City hospitals. Dr. Ball served his country as an orthopaedic surgeon in the U.S. Navy Medical Corp. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member of the American
Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Ball joined Freeman Health System in 1991. He was recently honored by the Joplin Business Journal with a Healthcare Hero Award for Lifetime Achievement – Distinguished Leadership in Surgery.
