Freeman CEO Announces Leadership Transition Plan

Thursday, August 25, 2011 - Freeman CEO Announces Leadership Transition Plan

JOPLIN, Mo.—The Board of Directors of Freeman Health System and President and Chief Executive Officer Gary Duncan have announced a leadership transition process for the System. Duncan, who informed Lance Beshore, Ph.D., Chairman of the Freeman Health System Board of Directors, several months ago of his plans to retire in 2012, says the detailed process will allow Freeman to continue its important work.

“For many years, I have been privileged to lead a team of people who are committed to the mission of this hospital system,” said Duncan. “Whether they are responding to everyday patient needs or heroically saving lives in the wake of a historic tornado, our team lives out their commitment to serving our region. I have always taken very seriously the responsibility of leading that team.”

To identify the next leader of the Freeman team, the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors has been working with experts in the field of hospital leadership transitions since 2006 to implement a comprehensive plan. As part of that plan, the Board is initiating a selection process to identify the most qualified candidate for the position.

“We are grateful to Gary for his extraordinary contributions to building the System during his 15 years as President and CEO and more than 36 years of service to Freeman,” said Beshore. “I am extremely confident, given the thoroughness of the process that has been established and the leadership of the Board of Directors, the choice for the next Freeman CEO will be an outstanding one. That person will have all the tools and resources he or she may need to keep leading this incredible team.”
